In this installment of From the Faculty Lounge, Joshua New, assistant professor of psychology, and Homa Zarghamee, assistant professor of economics, join Provost Linda Bell to analyze the ways in which we make choices, both rational and irrational, and how these choices impact our individual and collective good. New discusses how evolutionary psychology provides unique predictions into the evolution of our species, while Zarghamee explains why we should look at subjective well-being in addition to gross domestic product (GDP) as a measure of our well-being. Although the professors work in different disciplines, they both advance our understanding of the constructs that affect how we experience and perceive the world around us.
From the Faculty Lounge is a series of conversations filmed live in which Barnard faculty members discuss their intersecting research and ideas. For upcoming event dates, visit the events page.
